Fact of the day on Flatulence

I can't resist stupid fart jokes. But gas is a natural thing that everyone has (no matter how funny we [I] find it)!

Some interesting facts about the gaseous you:

  1. Humans usually produce 0.5-2 litres of gas a day and pass gas around 14-23 times a day.
  2. What constitutes the "gas"? CO2, O2, N2, H2, CH4 (occasionally) & H2S (rotten egg ones).
  3. Causes of gas: swallowed air and breakdown of undigested food by intestinal flora.
  4. Most swallowed air is expelled through belching, while flatus from flora breakdown process is expelled through the rectum as flatulence (fart).
  5. Some people produce methane. The reason is still unknown (at the time of publishing).
  6. A person who produces methane will have stools that consistently floats in water.
  7. Rice is the only starch that does not cause gas. (Yay for Asians!?!)
Information distilled from here.

After going through the food list that may cause gas, it seems to cover most of the carbs, fiber & phyto-protein sources - which makes it rather hard to stay Flatu-Less©! :D
